P.E.M.A.C. Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why join PEMAC?
When you join a club such as PEMAC you are flying in a legal and safe environment You are covered by insurance in the event of an accident causing injury to people, or damage to property. You can also draw on the experience of other modellers to assist with aircraft building, set up, and flying techniques.
2. Are their any other benefits to joining PEMAC?
PEMAC has one of the cheapest club fees around. With the club fees full membership also includes MAAA insurance. Once you have MAAA insurance you are able to fly at other MAAA clubs as a visitor as long as you follow the rules of the club you are visiting.
3. Does PEMAC impose model and flight restrictions?
Yes it does. Some rules are set out by CASA, Australia's governing aviation body, some rules are set out by the MAAA, these rules must be followed for insurance reasons. Some rules are set out by the club itself.
All the rules are in place for one reason alone, to provide a safe environment and maintain a peaceful co-existence with our neighbours and the council that allows us to use the field.
Every club has rules, some have more, some have less. It just depends on the requirements of the law and each clubs own special circumstances.
4. Is it true the strip is unusable due to vandalism?
Unfortunately vandalism is part of todays society. So yes, on occasion, trail bike riders delight in tearing up the strip. This is a problem with almost every club though and there are no clubs in Sydney that we are aware of, that have a sealed concrete strip.
PEMAC is currently introducing measures to deter such attacks. In saying that, there has never been a weekend where flying has ceased as the strip was unusable. Pilots just take a different approach path and use their skills to overcome/navigate these obstacles.
5. When do people fly?
The clubs operating hours are available on the Home Page and also the Rules Page. There is no guarantee people will be at the field within these hours. We are trying to organise members to post on the forum here to let people know what day and time they intend to fly.
So the best way to find out if PEMAC is for you, would be to come down and have a look for yourself, meet the friendly members, and any queries you may have regarding rules and restrictions as well as flying space can all be explained.
Further info is also available through the constitution, rules, and links to other governing bodies.
Hope this helps and hope to see you at the field.
Regards,
The Committee.
